| Kurt Wiese lived near Frenchtown, New Jersey, and in addition to being a talented painter, had received international acclaim as an illustrator and author of children's books. Born in Minden, Germany, Wiese left soon after high school to work for a German aniline dye company in Tsing Tao, China. At the outbreak of World War I, he was captured by the Japanese and handed over to the British, then sent to prisoner camps in Hong Kong and Australia. While interned, he developed a talent for drawing t (showing 500 of 2031 characters). |
