Genre painter and craftsperson, Charles Xavier Harris was born 1856 in Foxcroft, Maine. He lived in New York City from 1887-93; Philadelphia, Pennsylvania 1895; Thompsonville, Delaware, 1898; and later in Richmond, Virginia. He studied in Paris for some time, under Cabanel. His oil paintings include "The Moulders," depicting two sculptors at work, and the goodbyes involved in a "Colonial Wedding." As a craftsperson he worked in stained glass.
