A newspaper illustrator, print maker, and easel painter, Arthur Dodge was born in Providence, Rhode Island, and was brought to California via the Panama Canal by his parents when he was six-months old. The family lived in Grass Valley for ten years and then settled in San Francisco.
He began his career as a wood engraver and then spent five years studying art in New York City . Returning to San Francisco in 1890, he worked as a newspaper illustrator until 1901 when he moved to Los Angeles (showing 500 of 820 characters). |
