A neo-classical sculptor, Edward Bartholomew was a carver of bas reliefs, marble busts and medallions. His work is in traditional classical style and subject matter, and one of his most famous works is Eve Repentant, a monumental, seated woman overburdened by grief. His bas reliefs were narrative pieces that convey a sense of tragic sincerity.
He was a native of Colchester, Connecticut and studied at the National Academy of Design and worked both in New York and Hartfor (showing 500 of 869 characters). |
