|  George Ortman was born on October 17, 1926 in Oakland, California. He studied at the University of California at Berkeley, Hans Hofmann, the Academie Andre L'Hote in Paris, Arizona State University and the California College of Arts and Crafts. He taught at the School of Visual Arts in New York City, New York University, Princeton University, Fairleigh Dickinson College in the summer of 1964, and Cranbrook Academy of Art.
