| | Illustrator, painter. Born in Champaign City, IL in 1860. Espey came to San Francisco in the 1870s and studied at the School of Design under Williams and Yelland. He continued in Paris at Académie Julian in 1881. After his studies abroad, he settled in Portland, OR where he was active in the local art scene. A landscape painter, he had just begun to do some of his finest work when tuberculosis ended his life at age 29.
