A survey artist, Anton Schonborn, from Germany, was skilled with his watercolor depictions of the American West. "His works are tightly drawn and meticulously finished, full of light and charm" (Hassrick) and were admired for both their beauty and exactitude.
He was on the 1859-60 exploratory expedition of Captain Raynolds of the upper Yellowstone River and did many views of mountain scenery as the travelers circumnavigated the river, often challenged by heavy snows. The guide was mountai (showing 500 of 1619 characters). |
