An illustrator and painter, Richard Powers has done numerous children's books, cover designs, and poetry books for Dell Publishing and a series on "Major Cultures of the World" for World Publishing." He has also illustrated for "Esquire," "Saturday Evening Post," "Redbook," "Life," and "Natural History." In addition to conventional illustration, he also did about 400 science fiction/fantasy paintings and a portfolio of surrealist paintings titled "Space Time Warp."
