Born in Attmar, Sweden, Jonas Grafström was in the Pacific Northwest in the late 1880s, living first in Portland, Oregon in 1886, and then in Spokane, Washington. He also taught for four years at Bethany College in Lindsborg, Kansas and then moved to Rock Island, Illinois, where he taught at Augustana College until 1920.
