| Albertus Baldwin was employed by the Federal Government for many years,
in the Departments of Agriculture, Interior, and Commerce, and provided
illustrations for various scientifc reports.
Although his date of birth is disputed, he was in Venice from 1864 to
1865 and in Rome in 1867. From 1869 to 1893, Baldwin was in New
York City; and from 1889 until 1904 in Washington, DC, although in
1892, he also had an address in New York.
He studied at Yale University, École des Beaux-Arts, Paris; and perhaps also at the at the Acadámie Julian.
Exhibition venues include Washington Watercolor Club; National Academy
of Design, 1864 to 1880 (Venetian scenes); Brooklyn Art Association,
1872 to 1883 (as A.H. Baldwin, Venetian scenes and genre); Art
Institute of Chicago, 1892 (as A.H. Baldwin); Paris Exposition of 1900
(medals); St. Louis Exposition of 1904 (medals).
He was a member of the Washington Society of Fine Arts; Cosmos Club,
1899-1944, and his work is in the collection of the National Museum of
American History; and the U.S. Department of Agriculture.
