This biography from the Archives of AskART:
The following is from Lynn Breger who wrote: "I found this information on the back of frame of a painting depicting Spanish Church and signed lower left by GH Macrum."

Born in Pittsburgh, PA, George Macrum specialized in views of New York and its surroundings; he painted primarily urban genre, landscapes and harbors. He studied at the Art Students League under Frank DuMond and Birge Harrison.

Macrum was both a painter and a teacher. He exhibited at: Whitney Museum of American Art, the Pennsylvania Academy 1908-18, 1928-31, 1936; Corcoran Gallery biennials, 1910-28 (4 times); Appalachian Expo, Knoxville, TN, 1911 (gold); SC, 1914 (prize); Panama Pacific Expo, San Francisco, 1915 (medal); AIC, 1915-28; Society of Independent Artists, 1918-19, 1928; and Salons of America, 1928, 1929.

His paintings are in two art institutions: Pennsylvania Academy and the Canadian National Gallery, Toronto. He was a member of the Allied Artists of America, Philadelphia Art Club and the Woodstock Art Association.

The following, submitted June 2004, is from Ellen Weiss.

I checked a family history: I think he was born in 1876, not 1888. George and Grace were living in Sloatsburg NY, (having come back from many years in Europe) when I knew them in the 1940s through 60s.

"Uncle George" was married to my great-aunt, the poet Grace Fallow Norton. My family visited often when I was a child and I remember those visits vividly. I visited as an adult in the late 1950s. Incredibly, I have no record of the date of his death.
