Biography from US Auction House:
| Ira
Denise (1840-1901) was born in Franklin, Ohio and moved to Cincinnati in 1858
to begin his career as an artist. He exhibited at the Cincinnati
Industrial Expositions in 1872 and 1874. He traveled throughout the
region painting landscapes, going as far as Florida and Italy on two
trips.
Leon Van Loo (Photographer, 1847-1907), an
influential Cincinnati figure, collector, and founding member of the
Cincinnati Art Club, hired Denise to execute portrait enlargements
during 1869-1870. Denise apparently detested the work, preferring
landscapes.
