This biography from the Archives of AskART:
Born in San Jose, CA on Nov. 9, 1876. When Sybil was a child, she moved nearby to a farm in Hayward. It was there that she had her first art lessons with neighbor, Juan B. Wandesforde. She then continued at the Mark Hopkins Institute under Mathews, Yelland, Joullin, and Tilden. Following her art studies, she had a studio in San Francisco's "Monkey Block" (now Transamerica Pyramid). Considered an artist of exceptional ability, she returned from a two-year sojourn in Mexico in 1905 and abandoned her art career. Settling in Tunitas Glen in San Mateo County, she led a hermit-like existence until her death on Oct. 9, 1961. In: San Mateo Co. Historical Museum.
