This biography from the Archives of AskART:
Born in Farmington, CT in 1820. Fairchild was active in Boston during the late 1840s. While there, he painted scenery at the Howard Athenium and Federal Street Theater. Arriving with the Gold Rush in 1850, he settled in San Francisco where he was a scene painter at the Jenny Lind Theater and McGuires Opera House. In 1856 he collaborated with Charles H. Rogers on a panorama of the Vigilance Committee. His early demise in San Francisco on Feb. 9, 1862 was due to a brain tumor.
