This biography from the Archives of AskART:
| An architect, teacher and painter, Donald Ayres was also an instructor in drawing and architectural design at Iowa State College early in his career. He was born in Cedar County, Iowa and was a graduate of the University of Iowa in 1928 and then of Harvard University in 1936. By the 1930s, he had settled in Los Angeles where he died on June 25, 1985.
Exhibition venues included the Iowa Art Salon in 1934 and 1936 and the Beaux Arts in New York in 1929
