Born in Middlebury, Vermont, William O'Grad graduated from the University of Vermont at Burlington.
O’Grady joined the Gold Rush to California in 1849. He apparently
mined for awhile, and by 1852 had settled in San Francisco as a teacher
at the Rincon Point School. By 1857 he had a studio on Clay
Street.
His View of Downieville was lithographed locally by Justh, Quirot, & Company.
O’Grady died of consumption in New York on Aug. 24, 18 (showing 500 of 761 characters). |
