Grace Ansley Treadwell was born in Martha's Vineyard on July 13, 1893. She studied at the Academy de la Grand Chaumiere in Paris, the Art Students League of New York, and the Boston Museum School of Fine Art.
Active during the 1930s, 40s, and 50s as a painter, educator and lecturer, she exhibited with the Allied Artists of America, the National Arts Club, and the National Association of Women Artists, and served as President of the NAWA's watercolor jury.
