Aurelio Yammerino (1912-2000)

Leaning toward expressionism in his painting, Yammerino never stopped experimenting while creating new images, techniques and color values.  He is quoted as saying: "What a tragedy it would be to stand and contemplate, to repeat without variation, or to be enamored of style or technique".

He was born November 26, 1912 in New Rochelle and graduated from New Rochelle High School. He served in The United States Army during World War II, Company L, 3rd Ordinance, Technician Fourth Grade.  He received the American Service Medal, Good Conduct Medal and World War II Victory Medal.

Yammerino studied with Gifford Beal, Arthur Covery and Leon Kroll at the National Academy of Art in New York City.  He exhibited at the American Watercolor Society; National Gallery of Art, Washington, DC; Baltimore Museum of Art; Hudson River Museum, Yonkers, NY; Whitney Museum, NY; Bruce Museum, Greenwich, CT; Silver Mine, Stamford, CT and was a member of the Salmagundi Club. He participated in many exhibitions of the Salmagundi Club. He also exhibited in numerous other solo and small group shows and won awards from the Westchester Art Society, New Rochelle Art Association, Yonkers Art Association, Mamaroneck Artist Guild and Greenwich Village Outdoor Show.

He maintained a gallery and frame shop in Port Chester, New York, where he taught drawing, painting, and framing.

Aurelio Yammerino died of natural causes on May 10, 2000 at United Hebrew Geriatric Center in New Rochelle, NY at the age of 88.
