Born Haverstraw-on-Hudson, New York in 1871, Jean Rachmiel was a painter who would later be dubbed the "American Millet." His father, renowned landscape painter Alexandre Rachmiel, trained Jean in drawing and painting.
At age 16, Jean studied at the Art Students League in New York City under George de Forest Brush. In 1890, he went to Paris where he studied under Jules Lefebvre and later at the Ecole d (showing 500 of 1447 characters). |
