A Native American artist known for mural painting, Richard Martinez was one of the original students at the Santa Fe Indian School for whom he did a series of dining room murals in 1936. He was from the San Ildefonso pueblo in New Mexico and lived there most of his life.
"He painted as early as 1920, and, in 1950, he was still painting mythological and ceremonial subjects." (Lester 345)
