| Born in Port Huron, Michigan, Joseph Brown lived in Worcester and Sharon, Massachusetts and did much painting at Marblehead. He was renowned for decorating furniture, painting landscapes, illustrations, and for portraits of famous persons in Boston.
Brown was represented at one time by Vose Galleries in Boston. The Detroit Museum has representative painted furniture by him. He was a member of the Society of Independent Artists in Boston and active in art associations in Gloucester and Marblehead.
Brown died in Foxboro, Massachusetts in 1953.
