This biography from the Archives of AskART:
| A woman whose art career began late and ended prematurely, Ree Morton created a body of work that combined painting, sculpture, and performance. A graduate of the Rhode Island School of Design in 1966, she was a pioneer in American post modern art, but sadly died at age 40 in an automobile accident.
She kept many pages of detailed notes about future projects, drawings, journal entries, collected quotes, natural science, etc., indicative of her voracious reading and her ability to bring together thoughts on disparate subjects.
Her writings and artwork were the subject of a retrospective in 2000 at the Fleming Museum in Burlington, Vermont.
