This biography from the Archives of AskART:
Born in Kansas City, Missouri, Reg Manning gained regional attention as a cartoonist for newspapers in Phoenix, Arizona. 

He moved to the state as a youngster and studied art at Phoenix Union High School. In 1926, he joined the Phoenix Republic newspaper staff as cartoonist, and in 1934 into the 1960s, he held the position of editorial cartoonist for the "Republic and Gazette Syndicate," publishers of Phoenix city newspapers.

In 1951, he won a Pulitzer Prize, and in 1970 and 1971, received the Abraham Lincoln Award from the Freedoms Foundation.  In 1938, he wrote and illustrated the Cartoon Guide of Arizona, and in 1941 What Kind Cactus Izzat?  Other publications by Manning are Little Itchy Itchy, 1944; From Tee to Cup, 1954; and What is Arizona Really Like?, 1968.

A resident of Scottsdale, he was a member of the Arizona Press Club and the Cartoonists Society of New York.   Exhibition venues included the Phoenix Art Museum.
