Alice Estelle James (1889-1970)
Alice James studied art privately with a number of important painters of her time beginning with Emil Carlsen in New York. In Europe she received instruction from Valentin Hennemann in Belgium and from Kate Holson Carpenter, an English artist, who had studied at the National Academy of Design in New York. She also studied with John Enneking and Margaret Fitzhugh Browne in Boston and with Emile Gruppe in Gloucester, Massachus (showing 500 of 1391 characters). |
