| Mr. Comito was a painter, lithographer and a teacher. From his
exhibition history, he painted landscapes, still life and
portraits. He was born in New York City in 1906. His
education was at New York University, the National Academy of Design
School and abroad in Italy.
He exhibited paintings at the 1934 Salons of America. In 1940 his Fig
Leaves and Fruit won the Second Hallgarten Prize at the National
Academy of Design; he also exhibited there again in 1944. He also
exhibited at the American Watercolor Society; Brooklyn Museum; Carnegie
Institute; the Currier Gallery of Art; Irvington, NJ, 1945
(prize); the Jersey City Art Museum, 1945 (prize); the Library of
Congress; the Philadelphia Watercolor Club; the Washington Watercolor
Club; and the Wawasee Art Gallery, Syracuse, Indiana, 1945 (prize).
He died in Brooklyn, NY in 1990.
