This biography from the Archives of AskART:
Native American, Brad Kahlhamer assimilates abstract elements from the art of his culture with that of New York Abstract Expressionists including Cy Twombly and Willem de Kooning.  He was born on an Indian Reservation near Tucson, Arizona and raised in the Midwest by a German-American family.

Cultural influences on his work include punk and country-western music and television shows such as Little House on the Prairie.  In 2006, Kahlhamer created in New York an "Urban Prairie Series" for a Deitch Projects exhibition.  It was pen and ink drawings or "rail-thin white chicks", which are "difficut to take and easy to consume.  It is hard to know whether these are the artist's fantasies or a commentary on how the fashion industry markets faux-Native accoutrements."

Another part of his 2006 exhibition was a watercolor drawing, Desert Forest City, which is described as a "nightmarish scene" that conflates "actual and imagined narratives of the West" and establishes "connections between Custer's Last Stand and the Las Vegas strip.
