| Wolfgang Paalen was born in Baden near Vienna, Austria in 1905. At 16 Paalen studied painting in Berlin with Leo von Koenig, and later continued in Paris with Fernnd Léger. A modernist, his work embraces Surrealism and Abstract Expressionism. He committed suicide in Taxco, Mexico in 1959.
