This biography from the Archives of AskART:
Known for realistic figurative paintings of adults and children in antique settings, Morgan Weistling was raised in Southern California.  He learned to draw from his father and was strongly encouraged by his mother who researched art schools for her son.  She determined that a small school in Resuda run by Fred Fixler was the best because Fixler used the old time, classical methods of traditional realism.  Weistling credits Fixler with teaching him how to paint with effective methods of lighting.

For fourteen years, he worked as an illustrator of movie posters. His artist hero is Richard Schmid whom he calls a "pure artist."  Also a close friend of Dan Gerhartz, Weistling realized from him he could make a living at fine art and has been highly successful, painting in the loose painterly style of Joaquin Sorolla and John Singer Sargent.

Biography from Trailside Galleries:
Morgan Weistling, b. 1964, California, (United States)

Well known for his paintings of early American pioneer life, Morgan Weistling began his art career as a movie-poster illustrator. After 14 years, he left illustration to pursue fine art. Interested in the effects of light, Weistling’s paintings capture the mood and atmosphere of the past. His attention to the historical aspects of his subjects comes from his desire to portray the truth and beauty of America’s pioneering spirit. Weistling and his wife, JoAnn, also an artist, reside in California with their daughters, Brittany and Sienna.

Biography from J Watson Fine Art:
Morgan Weistling is the winner of the 2011 Patron's Choice Award--Autry National Heritage Museum Masters of the American West Show., and winner of the 2008 Prix de West Purchase Award for his painting, "Indian Stories", which is now in the permanent collection of the Cowboy and Western Heritage Museum. Morgan has an amazing gift. Not only are his paintings beautiful, charming and done with wonderful technique, but Morgan also has an exceptional ability to show the spirit of the subject in his work.

His subjects are often women and children in settings of simpler times. A deeply religious man, Morgan brings his spirituality to his artwork. "My hope is that people will enjoy viewing my artwork as much I enjoyed painting it. For me, art is my language used to communicate to others how I see God's creation. When I experience another artist's work, I love to see through their eyes and find out as much about the artist as the subject they painted. That is what makes art so interesting." Morgan began painting at a young age and worked as an illustrator for Hollywood movie studios for 14 years. His fine art career has been extremely successful with his paintings in demand by buyers and often sold by "draw" where many collectors and dealers put their name in to hopefully be picked for the privilege of buying an available painting. His impressionist style shows more detail in his paintings from further back than is evident up close. His influences include John Singer-Sargent, John Singer Sargent, Anders Zorn, Fred Fixler and others. Morgan is not prolific, but his paintings are such masterpieces that collectors wait (not so patiently) in hopes of adding them to their collections.
