Larsen visited the Danish West Indies (now U.S. Virgin Islands). His realistic and empathetic descriptions of the local people of color are unique, as are his color saturated impressionist landscapes. Larsen stayed in Danish West Indies from 1904 to 1907 and visited the U.S.A. (New Orleans), Mexico and Cuba during the same period.
