| | Born in Frankfurt, Germany on Feb. 26, 1875. Although born abroad, Bella Gerstle was the daughter of wealthy San Franciscans who were on an extended tour of the continent. After her marriage to banker Mortimer Fleishhacker in 1904, she established a home in San Francisco and became one of the City's most prominent benefactresses and socialites. Mrs. Fleishhacker was also a fine amateur painter who studied locally with John Gerrity and her brother, Wm L. Gerstle. Her work includes still lifes and landscapes. She died at her home in Woodside, CA on Aug. 4, 1963.
