| | Born in Knoxville, IL on Oct 13, 1846. Musically inclined, Kimble could play both violin and accordian at age six. In 1852 he came with his family to San Francisco and was soon in demand as a musician in the theaters and bordellos. At age nine he returned to Illinois where he gained renown as an expert duck shot and inventor of the mallard-duck call and choke-bore shotgun. By 1930 he was a champion checker player and a skilled, self-taught landscape painter. He died in Los Angeles on Aug. 19, 1940.
