| Yotoku Miyagi was born in Japan on February 10, 1903. Miyagi immigrated to California from Okinawa with his parents when quite young. He studied at the San Francisco Art Institute until 1923. He then moved to southern California where his father was farming in the Imperial Valley. He continued his art education at the San Diego School of Fine Art and in Los Angeles at the Art Students League where he was a pupil of Macdonald-Wright.
