| Born in Seattle, Washington on July 29, 1905. Shawl moved to San Francisco with his family as an infant. After graduating from the CCAC, he was a freelance artist until 1935 when he opened a commercial art agency with Clyde Seavey and Paul Nyland. In his leisure he painted landscapes in oil and watercolor. He remained in San Francisco until his death on Dec. 22, 1998.
