This biography from the Archives of AskART:
| The following information was submitted by Robin Stafford of the Harlowe-Powell Auction Company: Barry Moyer was born in Pennsylvania in 1941. He received his first training in art at the Cooper School of Art in Cleveland, Ohio, and began a 40-year-career as a graphic designer in 1967. Beginning in the mid-80s, he has been spending all his spare time painting in oil. He is largely self-taught, though for a short time he studied with Washington painter Armand Cabada.
Moyer serves as an assistant at St Luke's Gallery in Washington, D.C. since 1987, gaining much inspiration from the Old Master paintings that surround him there.
