| Painter. Born in Grahamstown, South Africa on Nov. 20, 1869. Carlisle was educated in England and studied art in Paris for five years at Académie Julian under Bouguereau, Robert-Fleury, and Benjamin Constant. While studying there, her work won several medals. After the turn of the century, she toured widely in the U.S. and was active in California from about 1911-15. Her oeuvre includes miniatures, landscapes, garden subjects and portraits. The last decade of her life was spent in NYC. A spinste (showing 500 of 737 characters). |
