This biography from the Archives of AskART:
The following information is from Robert Porter, grandson of Judas Ullulaq.

"I remember as a child watching him carve his work through the whole day and he would put every effort in his body to create such an art form like his creations. Every time he would carve something out of scrap, it  would always makes me wonder what would be his next imaginative creation he'd do with soap stone. I may not remember much, but I remember seeing him go outside to carve up something to provide for his family. Even one sale would make him the happiest man in the town. Spending all day and all night on his carvings was what he did best and he sure was a hard working man, putting every bit of energy in his body to create a wonderful, imaginative art.

He was a kind, caring man and always spoiled his grandchildren, giving them whatever they wanted. But that's what he did, for love of his grandchildren. Putting a smile on on of his family members face was always putting a smile on his own. But in his final days, he tried his best to provide for his family. Working life as a carver, eventually takes toll on an individual as the dust lingers into their lungs causing lung cancer. It was very sad seeing him in his condition during his final days as a carver. I miss him a lot and I hope another carver like him comes along.
