Born in San Remo, Italy along the Mediterranean Sea, Mario Amegilo
painted many scenes reflecting this environment as well as extensive
travels in Europe. As a young man, he went to Paris, where he
settled in the bohemian, arts area of Montmartre and met many of the
avant-garde artists such as Pablo Picasso, Jacques Villon and Jean Paul
Francois Galle. He exhibited oil paintings at the Paris Salons,
and in 1938 won first honorable mention for his painting Cathedrale de Rouen (showing 500 of 837 characters). |
