A Northern California landscape painter, Alexander Wood was self-taught and itinerant and worked in the Northwest including British Columbia before establishing a studio in San Francisco in the mid-1880s.
He was born in Scotland. In California, he became a close friend of painter Astley David Cooper, and, excessive drinkers, they went on numerous painting, carousing trips together.
In 1887, they auctioned off some of their paintings, one which they had painted together.  (showing 500 of 2057 characters). |
