Albert Duprat developed his artistic skills at the École des Beaux-Art in his birth city of Venice. Most of his oeuvre reveals his love of Italy, and particularly Venice. Duprat consistently depicted his Venetian scenes—canals, monuments, and gondolas—as inviting and serene glimpses into the city. Duprat was greatly interested in the effects of light on water, and painted in short, colorful brushstrokes to heighten this effect.
