Eilis O’Connell is one of Ireland’s most successful contemporary
sculptors. She has completed public commissions worldwide on a variety
of scales, using an equally broad range of materials from moss to welded
steel. Born in Derry, she studied in Cork under John Burke and
graduated from the Crawford School of Art in 1977. In 1981 she won the
GPA Award for emerging artists and the following year represented
Ireland at the Paris Biennale. She has been the subject of a number of
monographs including one by Gandon Press in their series of contemporary
artists profiles and is represented in many major public and corporate
collections.
