The following information was compiled and submitted by Ed Horan: Defregger started his art career somewhat later in his life, beginning his training as a painter and that was in 1861. In Munich he was taken on as a student by Carl von Piloty. Starting 1878 he was professor at the academy in Munich. Defregger transformed Piloty's realistic style of history painting into one which was more genre-like. Thematically he showed a preference for tyrolese history (showing 500 of 2850 characters). |
