Kartick Chandra Pyne was born in 1931.
Graduating from Govt. College of Art & Craft, he went on to win Academy of Fine Arts Award in 1966,’69, ’73 and ’76 followed by Mahakoshal Kala Parishad Prize in ’73 and ’74. Pyne was one of the 100 artists chosen at ‘Hundred years of Asian Art’ (1861-1961), an exhibition organized by the Fukuoka Art Museum, Japan. But most of all it should also be known that he was one of the three painters who introduced surrealism in India.
