This biography from the Archives of AskART:

International artist Ilene Meyer passed away at her Gig Harbor home surrounded by her friends on June 3, 2009.  Ilene was born in Seattle, Washington on December 30th, 1939.

Ilene, inspired as a child by her mother's artwork, was self taught.  At the age of thirty, she dedicated her life to the pursuit of her art.  A master of many art forms, Ilene was self described as a surrealist with a twist; "a combination of reality, fantasy, and realism".  Her work shows intense depth of feeling through her use of color, light, and vivid detail.  Her work is a reflection of her travels and exploration of both Eastern and Western cultures.  Ilene's paintings are a true window to her mind, spirit, and soul.

She was an internationally published artist in the United States and Asia and had numerous exhibitions in the United States, Tokyo, Osaka, and Nagasaki, Japan.  Through the combination of elements from the many cultures she studied, Ilene displayed an innate sense of humanity in all forms.  Her paintings are filled with messages that appeal to the importance of the preservation and dignity of all life forms.

This biography from the Archives of AskART:
Ilene Meyer was born in Seattle, Washington on June 3.  2009.  A self-taught artist, she was inspired by her mother's drawings as a child.  She began showing her surreal oil paintings in Washington and California in the 1970's.  She paints in the Salvador Dali and Pablo Picasso style, but with more life and feeling.  She makes her paints come alive with her use of light, color, shadows and "all the details".

Ilene has had major gallery shows in the United States and overseas.  There is a documentary film chronicling her long career as an artist.  She is a celebrity artist to the Japanese after living and working there for several years.  Her prints, cards and over-sized book are all best sellers.  Ilene is back living in the United States and in January and February 2007, had her first United States show in 10 years in Tucson, Arizona which was a welcoming home event and one of the biggest shows Tucson has ever had.

Ilene Meyer passed away at her Gig Harbor home surrounded by her friends on June 3, 2009.
