This biography from the Archives of AskART:
Granizo was born in San Francisco and became a noted ceramic-tile muralist, who worked in bright colors, geometric shapes, heavy lines and varying textures, which gave his work a festive feeling.

He lived in Nicaragua and Guatemala for eleven years and there absorbed influences of pre-Columbian primitive art and also styles  of the Mexican muralists.

He graduated from the San Francisco College of Art, and then served as Art Director of KRON TV in San Francisco, until 1959, where he began a career as a producer of educational films.

When Stonelight Tile in San Jose, California accepted him as their resident artist in 1970, Granizo devoted all of his energies to the rendering of creative uses of colored glazes, and from that time devoted his career to being a ceramic tile muralist.

One of his public art murals is in Santa Cruz, California andwas commissioned by the Santa Cruz Downtown Association and the Sunrise Rotary Club. Another mural by Granizo is in the San Francisco Mission District and depicts the arrival of San Carlos and Father Junipero Serra in the San Francisco Bay, bringing good news of the Christian gospel.
