The following information is from Walter Scott:
I am the Grandson of Benjamin Davis and am currently in the process of compiling a list of all his known works by researching Sales through Auction Houses. He was born in 1869 and died 1946 in Glasgow Scotland at the time of his marriage in 1890 in Dublin.
He described himself as Landscape Painter, but I have seen no mention of work prior to 1890, the bulk of his work being dated 1900- 1920. From 1890 until 1900 he lived in Cork, Ireland and possibly attended the Art School there on a part-time basis. Thereafter he moved to Liverpool with his family until 1909, and then to Glascow, where he set up a Studio at his home.
I have found work in both watercolours and oil on canvas, and subjects ranging from Scottish landscapes to beach scenes, boats and interior cottage Scenes, with one painting depicting characters from Burns the Poet.
His work appears very similar to Francis E. Jamieson, and one of Jamieson's aliases, H B Davis, is signed with an almost identical signature to B DAVIS, which leads to speculation that Benjamin may have supplied some paintings to Jamieson to sell as his own.
The only Public Work that I know of is displayed at Perth Art Gallery and is a landscape.
