Otto Illies was born on 25/01/1881 in Yokohama (Japan) - died on 02.22.1959 in Wernigerode (Harz) German painter and graphic artist. Nephew of Arthur Illies. School in Hamburg. 1898 apartment in parents house on the Falkenstein on the Elbe. 1898-99 painting lessons with Georg Burmester in Kiel, 1900 in Hamburg at Ernst Eitner at the art school. Then he went to Munich in 1901, he studied at the University of Art History and History, 1902-03 nude studies with Heinrich Knirr. 1904-1908 visiting the art school in Weimar together with Ivo Hauptmann as a master student of Prof. Ludwig von Hofmann, with whom he struck up a friendship. 1908-10 Atelier community with the painter Hans Delbruck in Berlin. 1912 return to Hamburg, 1917, he married Hildegard Goslich and moved with her ??to the Falkenstein. 1920 accession to the Hamburg artist shaft (founded in 1920), 1,922 visual artists to Hamburg club from 1832. Member of the Association North West German artists, the Schleswig-Holstein Artists Cooperative and National Association German artists. Travel to the Baltic coast and in the Alps. Since 1924 in Wernigerode am Harz. In the winters of 1910-1928 he stayed in Warmberg at Partenkirchen, summer in the North Sea and Baltic coasts. Strongly colored landscapes ("Falkenstein at Blankenese", "Evening at the Elbe"), rural motifs ("barn", "house in the snow", "wheat field"). Funded by the Theodor Hagen's pupil Carl Lambrecht and suggestions by the old German masters, Segantini and Hodler. As a graphic artist mainly etchings. Solo exhibition: 2002 Hamburg gallery Herold.
