Born in Mexico, New York on Aug. 16, 1832, Lydia Finney was known for her watercolor paintings. She came to San Francisco with the Gold Rush in 1850 and there married artist Thomas Gihon in 1857.
Locally, she studied painting with Elizabeth Williams and Lorenzo P. Latimer.
She maintained a studio at 220 Sutter Street until the earthquake of 1906. Most of her works were lost in the disaster, making any extant works rare. Mrs. Gihon then mo (showing 500 of 783 characters). |
