Los Angeles-based artist Laura Owens' work blends abstract and
representational imagery. Her work draws inspiration from English
embroidery, Chinese and Japanese landscape painting, European and
American modernism, and her own photography, often creating collages
and fine line drawings. She acknowledges film, computer, and
television imagery among her influences. Her paintings are often
grandly scaled, address color and vary in the application of paint to
the canvas.
