This biography from the Archives of AskART:

Carla Carli Mazzucato was born in Appiano, amid the Alps of northern Italy, in 1935.  With a style that draws from both impressionism and expressionism, Mazzucato’s art is known for its bold color palette and artful blending of form and figures within landscapes and street scenes.

Described by Samuel Sachs II, former director of the Detroit Institute of Arts, as a “modern expressionist,” Mazzucato was influenced early in her career by the work of George Rouault, though her later paintings have been compared to works by Chagall, Renoir and Monet.  She attended the Cà Foscari Academy in Venice and the Università Cattolica in Milan before immigrating to the United States in 1962 where she received a Master of Fine Arts degree.

By 1982, Mazzucato's work began appearing regularly in New York City, and in exhibits across the U.S., Canada and Italy.  In 1990, she completed a large scale commission of fourteen oil paintings depicting the passion of Christ for the Roman Catholic Archdiocese Church of Corpus Domini in Bolzano, Italy.  Another commissioned work entitled Evening at the Opera, completed in 1999, hangs in the permanent collection of the Michigan Opera Theatre in the Detroit Opera House.

Mazzucato also garnered attention as a leading contemporary artist in 2000 for her work in printmaking and was featured by the SoHo Fine Arts Institute for both her original oils and woodcut prints.  A 2007 documentary film entitled Carla Carli Mazzucato – an artist’s journey, chronicles the artist’s life and art.
