| | Clara L. Cuff was born in Oakland, CA on Aug. 16, 1861. While teaching in Oakland, Cuff was Maurice Logan's first art teacher. Her landscapes were done in the dark Barbizon style reminiscent of the late works of William Keith. A spinster and lifelong resident of Oakland, she died at her home at 353 Alcatraz Avenue on July 14, 1944. | Source: Edan Hughes, "Artists in California, 1786-1940" City Directory; Death Record
